PARISH COUNCILS DEPLORE RURAL BUS CUTS

A RESOLUTION deploring the reduc tion in rural bus services was approved by Yorkshire Parish Councils' Association at their annual meeting in York. Members complained that the licensing system was "hide-bound with red tape by the Traffic Commissioners." They urged that 10or 12-seater vehicles should be allowed to operate in country districts. In their resolution, they complained of "the futility of trying to get bus companies to restore or even partly restore services. If larger companies could not cope, the regulations should be relaxed to assist small operators, they said. The local man knew his passengers' needs, and could run his services economically when big companies would lose money.
