Devon and Cornwall Police have dismissed the rumoured closure of the M5 and the introduction of road tolls for the period, but they confirm that some roads are likely to be closed if they become too congested and that diversions will be introduced.

Last week hauliers from the two counties met to discuss the likely impact of the eclipse on 11 August. They were advised to drive at night whenever possible and to identify alternate routes before the event.

The Highways Agency says it expects as many as four million extra visitors to the area. The main period of delay is likely to run from Friday 30 July until Monday 16 August.
