bus and coach builder Neoplan boosted its output by 12.5% last year to a recordbreaking 1,517 vehicles. Over the past three years the company has invested DM150m (£63m) in manufacturing plants in East Germany and its Berlin factory.
Last year it took 70% of the German double-deck market. It is now promoting its four-axled Megaliner for export as well as for its home market. One recent application is a 44seat luxury coach powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 423 engine driving through a ZF 6 5-150 transmission, for service over a transcontinental route in South America. A licensing deal with MAZ, of Belorussia, includes the production of coaches and lowfloor buses. An order has come from Ghana this week for Neoplan bodywork on 95 city and interurban buses.
