Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Staff shortages, maintenance difficulties and a strike have led to London Country Bus (North East) losing the contracts for three key routes — 292 BorehamwoodEdgware-Colindale; 298 South Mimms-Turnpike Lane; and 313 Potters Bar-Chingford — on the basis that its service has not been up to scratch.

According to London Regional Transport, "service performance has not been up to the standard specified". It has appointed Borehamwood Travel Services to run route 292, and Grey Green Coaches to routes 298 and 313, effective from Monday 22 February.

"This is the first time we've had to step in like this," says LRT. The pay and conditions strike which ended two weeks ago was not the major contributory factor in LRT's decision, says the company.

Schedules will be disrupted initially, says LRT, and the new contracts will run for only six months after which longterm tenders will be sought.
