nearside of the cylinder block, is changed at every service. Before fitting the new filter, oil the rubber seal to prevent it from crabbing as the filter is tightened. Prefill the filter with clean diesel fuel to avoid the need to prime the injectors, and ensure that the rubber seal that fits around the spigot in the centre of the filter mounting is in position.
The two oil filters are also prefilled before fitting, especially the by-pass filter, which is mounted to the rear of the engine, alongside the gearbox. If this filter is not prefilled, the engine will run dry.
