TEST RESULTS showing that operating temperatures as low as —25 degrees C can be obtained are being claimed by the Manchester manufacturer of an insulated shutter door.

Dover Roller Shutters has just launched its Arctic Door, after 14 months of development which has included trial operation in a trailer operated by a major supermarket company. Orders have been secured for three more.

It is made from a high and low density polyurethane sandwich construction and moulded into an aluminium profile used to separate the polyurethane and act as an internal surface. The outer skin is finished to accept paintwork.

Each lathe joint is sealed individually to ensure minimum heat gain, and it is fitted with nylon and aluminium components to make it easy to operate and as corrosion free as possible.

A standard feature of the door, which is being offered for export to warm countries as well as British operators, is a locking device with inside opening gear to prevent a driver from being trapped inside a refrigerated compartment. According to Dover, the operating temperature of —25 degrees C ought to be bettered in a new vehicle, which is less likely to have developed leaks. It compares with operators' experience of temperatures only being maintained to —15 degrees C.

A Manchester laboratory conducted independent checks on the door gear to verify Dover's claims.
