Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FARES increases with effect from April 3 were granted to Eastern National Omnibus Co. Ltd. and Southend Corporation at Cambridge last week at a joint sitting of the Eastern and Metropolitan Traffic Commissioners. Although a number of representations against higher fares were made by individuals and organizations, there were no statutory objectors.

Presenting the application for Eastern National, Mr. J. Main said fiveand sixday tickets would be withdrawn if the application were. granted. The number of such tickets issued had declined in recent years, and the facility was costly to administer. Monthly and three monthly tickets would still be available.

The grant was made subject to day return fares continuing to be available for journeys in excess of 41 miles.

Applying for higher fares for Southend Corporation, Mr. W. T. Day, assistant town clerk, said there had been a shortfall of £30,000 in actual revenue since the last increase and this more than absorbed a forecast profit of £25,000.

Southend also wished to withdraw fiveand six-day .tickets, monthly tickets being available as an alternative.
