INCREASES in deliveries of pre-packed 1 goods to supermarkets in the London area was stated to be one of the reasons why an Isle of Ely smallholder, K. A. Ward of Parsons Drove, had applied to the Eastern Licensing Authority, Mr. W. P. S. Ormond, at Wisbech last week, for a four-vehicle B licence. Three local operators objected, and Mr. Ormond, after hearing their evidence, reserved his decision.

For the applicant, Mr. H. R. W. Laxton said the present position was that his client operated two vehicles under a C licence (which he proposed to surrender if his application succeeded) and supplied two vehicles under a C-hiring arrangement. Another supporting witness, Mr. F. Cooper of K.F.F. (Packers) Ltd., said that although his company had the benefit of two Contract A vehicles operated by James Hicks, they were still experiencing transport difficulties. He agreed that he had supported an application by Hicks for an A licence which was refused
