Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THERE are now some 40 service stations operated by the German hauliers' co-operative organization S.V.G. (Strassenverkehrsgenossenschaft), as well as 30 transport hotels and 80 clearing houses providing annually between 2 and 3m. tons of freight. More than 80 premiums are now serviced by the hauliers' insurance company, Kravag. These factswere given in a report delivered recently by Herr Lothar Raucamp, chairman of the German road haulage association, Bundesverband des Dcutschen Ciiiterfernverkehr e.V. (B.D.E.1, in Dusseldorf to a group of ,Continental transport experts conducting a four-day study of the long-distance industry in the Federal Republic.

Underlining the comprehensive facilities provided by S.V.Ci., Herr Raucamp drew attention to the central buying service which obtained for carriers, at the lowet prices, fuel, tyres, spare parts, and a whole range of vehicle accessories. Advisory bureaux are also maintained which provide guidance on business development and regular bulletins are issued on the latest trends in the road haulage and vehicle manufacturing industry.

The study group also visited Frankf urtam-Main, where they were addressed by Dr. Anton Heimes, who gave a detailed review of the progress made by German long-distance hauliers. He mentioned that there were now some 10,500 firms in the long-distance section, involving a to:al of 22,100 licences. During the past two or three years there had been a tendeney for the industry to base itself on the medium-sized enterprise. The total tonnage carried by German long-distance hauliers over the past 12 momb.s amounted to 79rn. tons, which brought in -a revenue of 2 billion DM.
