• Saying that he was not satisfied with past, present and, from what he had heard in evidence, future arrangements for inspection and maintenance, the Eastern LA, Mr H. E. Robson, revoked the licence of D. K. Demolitions Ltd, Hadleigh, Suffolk, last week.

Giving evidence for his company the general manager, Mr John Callahan, said the company operated three vehicles and had just acquired a fourth. Two of these vehicles were bought new when the company was formed in 1970 and the third, an older vehicle, was undergoing a £1500 re-build at present. Mr Callahan admitted a history of GV9s and said he had been let down by a garage. He had now made arrangements with another garage to maintain the fleet and had also moved to new premises where the vehicles could be kept under cover.

After hearing evidence from a vehicle examiner who said that on one call to the operator's premises he had found only two records to cover the inspection of three vehicles for a period of one year, Mr Robson said that he wasn't at all satisfied about preventive maintenance arrangements. The operator had been called to a public inquiry in December 1971 and matters had not improved since then.

Announcing his decision, Mr Robson directed that two vehicles should cease to operate in 10 days' time but that the third might continue until the expiry date for the notification of any appeal. No application for a new licence would be entertained for six months.
