Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Although entries for the Franco-Belgian charcoal-gas trials were at • first rather slow in coming in, the past two weeks have seen an improvement, and it is now practically certain that some 25 vehicles will be seen at the start. The decision of the War Department to lend lorries has undoubtedly helped in this direction.

Amongst the certain starters are the Berliet Co., who have entered six lorries, the Renault Co. with three machines, and Panhard et Levassor with two machines. Three of the interesting Malbay supercharging producers -will be seen on Army lorries, also two examples of the Autogaz apparatus, mid at least one (maniple of the Hermitte. The firms of Barbicr, Tractor and C.G.B. have also entered producers. Belgian entries include two vehicles from the Pipe Co. and twe other lorries equipped with the E.T.I.A. appliance.

At the conclusion of the trials the jury will proceed with the examination 522

of the machines. The jury is a most representative one, and includes high officials of the French and Belgian War Departments, as well as representatives of the A.C.P., the Research and Inventions Office, the Colonial Office, the Public Works Dept., etc.

At Brussels, Liege and Strasbourg, where halts are made, producer-gas conferences will be held.
