• Ormskirk-based Bickerstaffe Containers, a company formed by the directors of Bickerstaffe Packaging which is now in receivership, has been granted a new licence for one vehicle. At a Manchester public inquiry North Western Traffic Commissioner Keith Waterworth said the application was being examined in public because of the rather chequered history of previous companies. He had to be satisfied there was adequate finance to ensure satisfactory maintenance. Managing director Alan Element said the vehicle Bickerstaffe Containers intended to use had been bought from the receiver. They were already trading with an "off-the-shelf" company, Ferrypek, when Bickerstaffe Packaging went into receivership.

Ferrypek's name was subsequently changed to Bickerstaffe Containers.

In reply to the TC, Element said the new company had just been granted overdraft facilities and it was negotiating to buy the building it occupied. Granting the licence after seeing the new company's 1995 accounts, Waterworth gave it 14 days to produce three months' bank statements and confirmation of the overdraft facility,
