THE PROTRACTED dispute between Manchester haulier Austin Wilkinson and the Transport and General Workers' Union at Liverpool has ended (CM, February 21).

Austin Wilkinson told CM that following a four-week blacking of its vehicles at Liverpool docks, the company was informed by the Manchester branch of the TGWU that the blacking was lifted from Wednesday April 15.

Two weeks ago there was talk of Liverpool docks refusing to handle all Manchester loads, and Manchester container terminal men refusing to deal with Liverpool hauliers.

The alleged blacking of Austin Wilkinson — which the TGWU in Liverpool repeatedly denied — stemmed from the company's plan to make its Liverpool drivers redundant.
