TMPENDING introduction of large American jci aircraft to "airline operation on the Continent has created a demand for improved fuelling facilities. As an interim measure, before the installation of hydrant fuelling systems, the British Petroleum Co., Ltd., have placed contracts with Thompson Bros. (Bilston), Ltd., and Saunders-Roe (Anglesey), Ltd., for the supply of two 10,000-gal. articulated fuellers with a maximum flow capacity of 750 g.p.m.

To he known as Yorkshire fuellers, the vehicles will consist of three-compartment aluminium tanks mounted on tandemaxle semi-trailer running gear, hauled by three-taxied A.E.C. tractor units. Pumping and delivery equipment will be fitted to the tractor chassis behind the driver's cab, and will be driven from the gearbox through a power take-off.

The overall length of the complete unit is 49 ft. 9 in. and the height is 10 ft. 6 in. Both vehicles are expected to be in service early next year.

The tractor is powered by an 11.3-litre six cylindered oil engine which is governed at 2,000 r.p.m.,at which speed 165 b.h.p, is developed. The normal rating for this unit is 150 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.rn., but the higher speed demands no alterations other than the addition of a crankshaft vibration damper, COACH DEPARTURES DROP: STATION RATING CUT

ASUCCESSFUL application was made last week by East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., to a valuation panel at Bridlington for a reduction in the assessment of £650 on their Promenade coach station.

It was submitted for F.Y.M.S. that the value of a coach station was reflected in its usage, rather than in rental value. In 1957, the number of vehicle departure; had been reduced by 10 per cent, and the station had no earnings from bars, cafe's, advertisements and so on.

TheInland Revenue advanced the view that the station occupied a site of high value and that its purpose was to sell transport. The panel reduced the assessment to 1540.

On the company's coach park at Princes Street the assessment was reduced from £150 to £120 and there was also an agreed reduction, from 11,550 gross to £1,250 gross, in respect of the company's bus depot at the rear of St. John Street, Bridlington.

The latest gearbox offered for the Tiger Cub is the Leyland four-speed synchromesh type.
