Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE NEWLY-formed United Transport Distribution last week officially opened a new distribution centre at South Kirkby near Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

United Transport Distribution was created last month by the merger of two companies in the United Transport group (itself part of BET), Murphy Distribution and Smith of Maddiston.

The South Kirkby centre was built primarily to handle the Northern distribution of Quaker Oats and British Alcan grocery products, two of the company's largest third party clients.

The new purpose-built distribution centre is in the Langthwaite Grange Enterprise Zone, 11 miles from the M62 and four miles from the Al. By early next year about 15 distribution vehicles will be based there.

Its 5,574sqm (60,000sqft) warehouse is currently only partially racked, six pallets high.

Quaker Oats products account for about half of the space and United Transport Distribution managing director Gerald Pickering told CM that the company is looking for two or three other medium-sized clients in the grocery business to use the capacity.

He said that United Transport Distribution is well on its way to establishing a network of five distribution centres, South Kirkby being the third after the Smith depot at Glasgow and the Murphy depot at Wolverhampton.
