Total spending power of around £E10m is estimated to have been attracted last year by the National Exhibition Centre at Birmingham, where the Motor Show was held for the first time. It was possible to get a reasonable meal, with wine, for about half that amount.
But Sir Bernard Scott, vicepresident of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, warned that from next year the centre must draw much more than £40m.
