ALTHOUGH wage negotiations are continuing around the country between Road Haulage Association areas and the Transport and General Workers Union, at least one area of agreement has been reached.
West Midlands RHA area and the TGWU have settled on a satisfactory accident and sickness benefit scheme. The new agreement has much in common with the system that has been operating successfully in the region for the last two years.
Its principal features are the proportional payments for drivers under 21 and the prerequisite that employees must have been in continuous employment for 26 weeks before they are entitled to benefits.
