Northern Scotland.

THE Aberdeensitting of the Northern

Scotland Commissioners opening on November 25th will be occupied mainly by local applications of W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., and smaller operators, and is marked by a practically complete absence of opposition. A large number of decisions, including several refusals and withdrawals, is listed in gazette 26. This gazette also explains local-authority conditions granted to the cities of Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen, also the Burghs of Ellon and Bundy. The Commissioners' standard conditions for regolar express and stage services, also for excursions and tours, are given in this gazette.

Southern Scotland.

NO lists of applications for bearing in 1932 are included in gazette 27 of the Commissioners for the Southern Scotlantl area, 'neither is there any list of applications to be heard at the last 1931 sitting, which will probably be in the first week of December. A large number of licence grants is announced, and provisions as to stopping places in the burghs of Coatbridge and Coldstream are defined.

Northern. • LOCAL stage and express applica tions will be heard by the Northern Commissioners at Newcastle on November 300, several of them being objected to by the L.N.E.R. concern. The list of applications to be heard at Newcastle at the sitting commencing December 2nd comprises mainly excursions and tours, many applications B44 being opposed by the railway interests and others. A long list of excursion bookings is to be dealt with on December 3rd and 4th.

Yorkshire.

THE York sitting of the Yorkshire Commissioners opening on December 1st will be characterized by an intense opposition by railway companies and railway-associated bus companies, to private applications for excursion and tour licences, etc. Gazette 31 announces a number of decisions, including half a dozen refusals of licences applied for by small operators. The licences granted are for excursions and tours, and the list includes the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd. (tours from Harrogate, Leeds, Bradford, Keighley). There have been some withdrawals. of this class of application.

North Western.

A CONCERN operating some Mer

cedes-Benz oil-engined buses, namely, Request Services, Ltd., Preston, will appear before the North Western Commissioners shortly in connection with its Preston-Garstang stage service and various excursions and tours ; it is opposed by the Ribble concern and others. Amongst those next to be heard are the many applications of the Yorkshire Traction Co., Ltd., and Yorkshire (Woollens District) Electric Tramways, Ltd. J. Bullock and Sohs (1928), Ltd., will be strongly opposed by the railways and the big companiec in connection with its express services and excursions, as also will the West Riding Automobile Co., Ltd. West Midland.

IN gazette 34 of the West Midland area, 158 pages are devoted to a fresh list of applications received. The .Shrewsbury sitting opening November 26th will be occupied mostly by express applications with, as usual, a fair amount of railway opposition. A useful feature incorporated in this gazette is an index under the names of applicants.

East Midland.

THE first applications to be heard by the East Midland Commissioners at next week's Luton sitting will be three by Luton Corporation which have been submitted following the recent termination of the local authority's negotiations with bus companies. These are opposed by the National and Eastern National concerns, Luton Omnibus Co., Ltd., and others. At this sitting the fresh applications of Premier Line, Ltd., for the Windsor-Aylesbury, LondonAylesbury and Kings Langley-Aylesbury routes will. be heard.

Eastern.

THE application of Queen Line Coaches and Baldock Motor Transport Co., Ltd., for a stage service between London and Baldock, will come up for hearing by the Eastern Commissioners at the Hertford sitting commencing December 1st, and will be opposed by the L.N.E.R. Co. and the National concern. Gazette 32 for this area announces the unfavourable decision of the Minister of Transport on the appeal by Messrs. A. W. Berry and Sons (London-Brightlingsea). Southern.

NO further sittings are announced in

Southern Area gazette 35. A number of licence grants is announced, as well as refusals to Messrs. Allchin and Sons, of backings in respect of the Northampton-Portsmouth and Northampton-Reading routes, and to the Ledbury Transport Co., Ltd., in respect of its express service between London and Reading.

Three unfavourable decisions are announced in respect of appeals made by Mr. Albert Austin, of Newbury, whilst a favourable decision of the Minister is given in the case of appeal by the Viking Motor Coaches, of Theme. In this case the Minister has decided to make an Order on the Commissioners setting aside their decision,

and instructing them to authorize operation between Theme and the area boundary if other Commissioners grant the necessary backings.

South Eastern.

THIS week's East Grinstead sitting

of the South Eastern Commissioners is concerned mainly with excursions and tours, and, of course, most of the applications are objected to by the railway companies and railway-associated road companies. The West Kent and the Maidstone and District stage applications are listed for hearing at the end of the week.

Arrangements are proceeding for the holding of a joint inquiry with the Metropolitan Commissioner on December 7th and 8th into the question of fares. Metropolitan.

A NUMBER of coach-service applica

tions by Green Line Coaches, Ltd., and others operating on the Eastern route out of London to Romford, Brentwood, etc., will be heard at the sitting of the Metropolitan Commissioner commencing November 30th. The L.N.E.R. Co. is opposing the applications.

Applications by Elliott Bros. (Bournemouth), Ltd., for express services connecting London with southcoast towns are listed for hearing on December 2nd and will he opposed by the railways. On the same day applications of Highways, Ltd., for Londonsouth coast routes are expected to be heard. Gazette 36 lists a number of refusals in respect of services to sports grounds, etc., in the London area.
