FAIRFUELUK (FFUK) has launched a major parliamentary bid to sink the August 3ppl fuel duty rise, but warns it cannot win without the industry’s help.

To get the 3ppl rise scrapped, an amendment to the Finance Bill is required. FFUK, along with the Freight Transport Association and the Road Haulage Association, has been working diligently since the Budget was announced to table an amendment.

It has gained the support of a group of cross-party MPs led by Scottish National Party MP Stew art Hosie, and last week this group began circulating a proposed amendment which scraps the rise.

FFUK founder Peter Carroll is asking every CM reader to email their MP via the FFUK website to urge them to support the proposed amendment. “We need to generate a massive head of steam behind this amendment. We need hundreds of MPs to show that they support it so that it has a chance of being debated and voted on.

“We are urging every truck driver, every transport manager, every haulage boss, every supplier, every maintenance provider to email their MP.” In just seven days since the launch of the ‘email your MP’ push, FFUK has had 14,510 letters sent to MPs via its website.

“Our target is 25,000 letters – we’re 58% of the way there. If we reach that target we can win this, but we need everyone in the industry to act and support this push,” stresses Carroll.

To contact your MP, go to: bit.ly/ ContactYourMP. It takes less than 60 seconds to do so.
