• Colefordbased Henry Cole has had his licence renewed for 18 months only by Western Deputy LA John Robins, following his third appearance at a public inquiry.

Cole had applied to renew his national licence for six vehicles and 11 trailers, and the DLA was considering disciplinary action. Vehicle examiner David Pillage said that he had issued one immediate prohibition and one delayed prohibition during a fleet inspection in January. The vehicles were reasonably well presented but two trailers needed to have their brakes adjusted; one had a seized brake and a vehicle had a brake valve that was sticking. Those defects were rectified at the time and no prohibitions were issued.

Since Cole had appeared at disciplinary proceedings in February 1989 there had been one prohibition indicating neglect, for a corroded step.

Cole said that a fork lift truck had ripped the driver's step away from the chassis; it had showed corrosion as it was a T-registered vehicle.
