its road haulage services could suffer in the event of a takeover by Trafalgar House.
In clearing the bid by Trafalgar House, the Commission said it had received no conclusive evidence that little of P&O's haulage interests would continue to operate following any merger.
Trafalgar House has no existing road haulage interest, but it made plain it had no intention of disposing of them.
But P&O said the merger would result in a loss of strategic direction leading to a smaller turnover, and fewer overseas earnings and UK jobs.
