FT1HE TABLESappearing on subsequent pages contain the essential facts concerning every chassis on the British market suitable for passenger service. There have been prepared other tables which deal with chassis entirely intended for goods transport (for example, electrie-battery-driven vehicles, steam wagons and so on) and Which will appear in later iissues, exigencies of space alone preventing the whole series from being published in this issue, whilst it is not necessary that information concerning chassis not suitable for passenger carrying should appear herein, this being a special passenger vehicle number.

The tables, as prepared in their complete form, however, give, in the case of the petrol-driven vehicles, the details of all such vehicles, goods carry. ing as well as passenger carrying ; so, in order to" assist a reader in gathering together information concerning vehicles that fan into a particular category, we have classified only the passenger-carrying vehicles under six headings according to 'seating capacity, in every case considering only the accommodation for passengers and "excluding the driver. This has been neeessary because some makers include the driver in the numbers for which the vehicles are seated regardless of the fact that this course (for tabular purposes) would transfer the vehicle to the next highest taxation class.. Thus a 14-seater on which the yearly tax in the provinces is £24 would, if described as a 15-seater, be subject to a tax of £36. Every chassis is given an identification letter and number in our tables, B standing for British, F for foreign, S for steam and TB for the trolley-bus. In out classifications below under the heading appropriate to each maximum seating capacity is given the name of each chassis (with the identification letter and number) which is suitable for a body accommodating passengers to the number shown in the heading. Reference to the full details of the chassis appearing in the tables is thereby facilitated.
