The chief constable of Merthyr Tydvil, Mr. J. A. Wilson, is actively engaged, with the aid. of a sub-committee of the Town Council, upon the necessary preliminary steps to form a fire brigade for the borough. A complete scheme, including provision for the purchase of a motor fire-engine, will shortly be presented. The scheme has the warm support of the Mayor, Mr. F. T. James, and many of the councillors. We received a report, last week, that the Surbiton District Council was about to purchase a motor fire-engine. We are informed by Mr. F. J. Bell, the Chief Officer of the Kingston, Surbiton and District Fire Brigade, which serves the Royal Borough of Kingston and the Urban Districts of Surbiton and Hampton Wick, that the report is incorrect. Two Dennis engines, with Gwynne pumps, have recently been acquired by the Kingston brigade.
