EAST LONDON haulier, Charles Thurleigh, trading as Arrow Freight International, had his 0 licence suspended after he failed to appear before the Licensing Authority for the third time.

Metropolitan LA, Anthony Robertson, told the court: "This operator has been invited to attend to answer points which I am interested in examining. I am not going to let this matter drift on and allow another adjournment."

Mr Thurleigh, whose operating centre is at Number Six Gate, Pennington Street, London, was thought to be in Saudi Arabia.

The licences — for 13 vehicles and 13 trailers — will be suspended from July 21.

Mr Robertson said that Mr Thurleigh had appeared in magistrates' courts all over the South of England on various charges including forgery of EEC haulage permits and allowing forged permits to be used.

Other charges included operating without record books, overloading and, in May, he was fined £1,100 on charges of having no 0 licence, test certificate or excise licence and ordered to pay back duty.

There was also a question of two cheques made payable to the LA for £30 for discs for his vehicles which Mr Thurleigh had made out — and both had bounced.
