Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOR PASSENGER vehicles, the picture is somewhat similar, though the increase in costs is slightly more for coaches than for buses.

The cost increases for minibuses with 12 seats and midibuses with 29 seats ranged from about 13 per cent in the lower weekly mileage scale to about 15 per cent when greater weekly mileage is run.

For the larger vehicles, up to 57 seats, the increases range from 16 per cent to nearly 20 per cent in the higher weekly mileage bracket.

As far as buses are concerned, the Tables illustrate the economies to be made if a two-shift system is worked.

For the larger doubledecked vehicles, the average cost increase shown for a single-shift working is in the region of 15 per cent, but this reduced to just under 13 per cent for the double shift.

For the stage carriage operator, the rebate of fuel Excise duty available for vehicles engaged on these services, the increases will be somewhat less as the effect of escaping the increased Duty imposed by the Chancellor.

Commercial Motor Tables of Operating Costs can be obttained, price £1, from the Cashier's Department, IPC Business Press (Sales and Distribution) Ltd, 40 Bowling Green Lane, London EC1 9LU. • Johnny Johnson
