Volvo and Scania to compete

COMPETITION between Volvo and Scania will continue, even under a merger, according to Sten Langenius, general manager of the Volvo commercial vehicle division.

Speaking at the Volvo headquarters in Gothenburg, Mr Langenius said that following the joint communique suggesting a merger between the two companies, the question was being studied by a group of employee-representatives. A result is expected in a few weeks time.

Only then will the respective boards meet to discuss the possibilities of carrying out Such a merger, and what influence it would have on the joint activities.

The boards would then have to approach their respective shareholders with a proposal for the exchange of shares to see if this was acceptable.

Mr Langenuis stressed that even under a merger, competition will continue.
