A LONGER version of th. Magirus Deutz eight-wheele will be available for the Britisl market later this year.
At present only one chassi can be specified, which is th shortest the German compan: makes while still permitting gross weight of 30 tons.
The present chassis has wheelbase' — from leadin front axle to mid-bogie — 5.64m (18ft Gin).
The new version will give a] increase of 457mm (18in) ti the wheelbase.
Cleaner roads
Tilcon has had an automatic wheel washing system installed at its Giggleswick quarry in North Yorkshire by Delavan Watson Ltd of Widnes, which will remove mud from vehicles before they go onto public roads.
The system is activated as the vehicle breaks a beam across its path and deactivated as it passes through a second beam ensuring that the high pressure (414 kN/sqm (60psi) flat spray nozzles are in use while the vehicle is in range.
The wash is situated between the quarry and the weighbridge allowing the water to drain from the vehicle before being weighed and reduces the possibility of dirt being transferred on roads.
