MR. J. W. MAteme, general sales manager of Nuffield Exports, and MR. K. L. ANDERSON, Who is in charge of the company's " knocked-down " department, are shortly to visit South Africa to negotiate with the Union Government on the question of importing "knocked-down" vehicles.

MR. BEN HALL, general manager of Portsmouth Corporation's transport undertaking, will on January 13 next, have completed 50 years' service with the department. Tributes to him were paid by various speakers at the annual conference of the Municipal Passenger Transport Association at Portsmouth, last week.

MR. S. E. C. SOYSA, technical assistant to the Commissioner of Transport, Ceylon, has returned to his own country after a visit to Britain to study transport methods. He was gre a tl y impressed by the efficiency of vehicles and operation in the United Kingdom and by the courtesy of transport operatives.

MR. H. CHAPPELL has been elected chairman of the north-eastern centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. He succeeds MR. P. M. BAKER, Who held the office for three years.

MR. F. R. DontisoN has been appointed assistant regional manager of the Manchester region of Pirelli, Ltd. It is a newly created post and he will work in close collaboration with MR. T. C. PERK:NS, regional manager. Mr. Dodgson has been depot manager at Newcastle-upon-Tyne since 1936 and is succeeded there by MR. F. BRueres.

MR. J. A. -DAvrEs, director and general manager of Newbury and District Motor .Services, 'Ltd., and a director of Venture, Ltd.: Basingstoke, is to be appointed Managing director of the Guernsey . Railway Co., Ltd., as from July 1, He will be succeeded by MR. L. H. GRIMMETT, area manager at Stroud for Red and White Services, Ltd.

MR. GEORGE F. SINCLAIR, C.B.E., has been elected chairman of the Public Transport Association, in succession to M. RAYMOND BIRCH, M.I.Mech.E, MR. JOHN WAITS has retired from the vice-chairmanship after four years, and MR. W. T. JAMES, 0.B.E., and MR. R. I. H. LONGMAN have been elected vice-chairmen for the ensuing year.

MR. J. CHEETHAM has been transferred from the Bradford works of Hepworth and Grandage, Ltd., to be works manager of the associated factory in New Zealand. Mr. R. D. UMPLEBY, a director of Hepworth and Grandage. Ltd., who sailed to New Zealand with Mr. and Mrs. Cheetham, will return to Bradford when the Auckland factory has got into its stride.
