EADERS of l70,000 provincial bta.,1-4 men are to meet in London next Tuesday to formulate new claims or higher pay and better conditions for both the municipal and company's men, The meeting follows the decision of the national passenger transport committee of the T.C_i.W.U. (The Commercial Moron last week) to consult with the other unions in the industry.

Next week's conference is certain to demand new increases to close the wice gatii between the provincial and London men, opened .up by the recent London busmen's . settlement. Once the claim has beenlagreed it will be lodged separately with the two joint negotiating councils. But with the holiday season in full swing no settlements are likely before the autumn at the earliest. Both councils granted increases ranging front 5 to 61 per cent earlier this year and mans undertakings had to put up their fares as a consequence.

NEW WELSH BUS SERVICES THE British Railways Board has been asked by the Minister (tc Transport to arrange the provision oi certain additional bus services between Newtown, Llanidloes, Rhayader and Breeon, following a report by the Transport Users' Consultative Committee. The T.U.C.C. had been asked to consider. in the light of, representations from users, the adequacy of alternatOe facilities following the closure of the Brecon-Moat Lane rail passenger services.

The committee recommended the provision of certain additional bus services, and also noted that the bus operators were applying for licences to run certain long-distance bus services on this route. Mr. Marples has accepted the committee's view that these latter would make a useful contribution to the services available to former users of the railway. The Minister has also asked the Railways-Board to examine with the operators the possibility of running buses via Newtown station to facilitate travel between the area and the Shrevvsburâ–  Aberystwyth line.

Services which the Minister has asked the Railway S Board to provide include morning and evening buses from Llanidloes to Rhayader and back to cater for workers, patients and others. and certain evening journeys between Newtown and Llanidloes to be provided daily instead of only on certain days, as at present. The .express services applied for include Liverpool-Cardiff via. Newtown, Llanidloes, Liangurig, Rhayader. Llyswen arid Brecon, to be jointly operated by the Western Welsh Omnibus Co. Ltd. and Crosville Motor Services Ltd. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays throughout the year, and daily from mid-May to mid-October, and midDecember to New Year.
