Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

.1-1, A SERIES of questions about the

number of A licences for carrying bulk liquids received short, and uninformative, answers when they were put to Mr. Marples in the House of Commons this week. Mr. Hugh Delargy (Lab., Thurrock) wanted to know how many firms held six or less A licences to carry these liquids and was told that the information could not be made available without a wholly disproportionate amount of work.

As for the other questions, Mr. Marples said he had asked the Licensing Authorities to let him have the information sought by Mr. Delargy and this would be sent on to the M.P. Mr. Delargy had asked how many applications for A licences were referred to public inquiries by Licensing Authorities during the past 12 months and who were the applicants and objectors in each case. He then wanted to know how many applications referred to these inquiries had been granted and how many refused and also how many licences were given without a public inquiry and to whom.

Glasgow Fares Up INCREASED fares have been granted 1 to Glasgow Corporation by the Scottish Traffic Commissioners, and will take effect on July 26. The 3d. minimum remains for one stage only, but for two stages the 3d. fare rises to 4d. The lid. nine-stage maximum rises to is.. the 12journey weekly ticket goes up from 9s. to 10s.. the night service single fare is raised by 3d. to Is. 9d. and the night service weekly ticket by is. to 6s.

The general manager, Mr. E. R. L. Fitzpayne, was asked whether the Corporation had considered fare reductions as a means of attracting extra customers; he said that a Id. reduction would require an increase of 15 per cent in traffic.
