Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A T a sitting of the Scottish Licensing 1-X Authority in Glasgow last week an application by Lowland Motorways, Ltd., Glasgow, to operate doulale-deck buses under a railway bridge at Shettelston was opposed by Lanarkshire County Council on the ground that the headroom, shown to be 14 ft. by the council's own warning, was in fact only 13 ft. 9 in. and Was, therefore, inadequate.

Lowland Motorways, Ltd., stated that their measurements confirmed the Ministry of Transport's records, which gave the headroom as 13 ft. 10 in. They contended that this would afford ample clearance to the low-height doubledeckers that they proposed to use, which had an unladen height of 13 ft. 61 in. . They suggested that the discrepancy in the warning was explained by the resurfacing of the road beneath the bridge.

Granting permission to the company to operate stage services from Shettelston to Cranhill and Springboig, Mr. W. Quin, chairman, said the Authority would withhold sanction to operate double-deckers under the bridge until a test had been made. He would like to know how many other low bridges there were in the country where there were similar discrepancies.
