Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NI Following our story on the UK Lift Co's Wheel-Lk 2000 system for restraining trailers on loading docks (CM 10-16 January), one West Country owner-driver has contacted us to highlight a potential problem affecting certain trailers. Trailers with some types of spray suppression mudguard equipment that comes low down between the wheels, as well as those with aerodynamic equipment that fills the gap between the wheels, can have problems using the locking bar.

Although not the only supplier of this type of device, UK Lift is aware of the problem; during its pre-installation surveys it advises site operators to consider the type of trailer using the dock. Where necessary it can install a system with a lower locking height to avoid damage, but this inevitably reduces the locking effect.

Some site owners' Health and Safety policies tend to concentrate on their own employees' well-being, with the state of a haulier's mudguards being very much a secondary Issue. With this in mind drivers would be well advised to be aware of the potential for damage before getting hooked up to this kind of restraint,
