• Drivers at National Welsh have accepted a cut in wages and holiday entitlement as part of a survival package put forward by the mangement of the Cardiff-based firm.
Drivers at Bridgend joined colleagues at five other depots in accepting a 7.5% cut in wages and a reduction in holidays from five weeks to four. Minibus drivers have also accepted reduced holidays and a change in sick pay.
If the 600 drivers had not accepted the deal "the situation would have been beyond contemplation", says the company. It is part of a survival package which includes selling the eastern division of the company, which includes eight sites and about 500 staff. Final vote • Shareholders of Northumberland-based bus and coach operator HE Craiggs are expected to vote to put the 72-year-old firm into liquidation.
