grant from central Government are likely to compel London Transport to implement further fares increases, Dr David Quarmby, LT's chief commercial planning officer, says in the current issue of LT News. The DoE has warned LT that the £53m government support grant for LT in 1975-76 cannot be continued at that level and will be reduced by half by 1978-79.
Dr Quarmby said that it was unlikely that a further fares rise would happen this year, beyond the March increase already planned. Latest Greater London Council figures show an LT operating
deficit of £1 67m in 19: After taking out £35m March fare increast £53m Government London ratepayers wil to find a further £79m.
