The growth of the Milk Marketing Board's transport fleet has led to the separation of its management, under the divisional head, into two posts. That of the transport fleet service manager will continue to be held by F. L. PfyiCB, while the position of transport fleet commercial manager will be taken over on March 1 by H. A. G. Browning. Hugh Browning, 40, joined Thomas & Evans Ltd, makers of Corona soft drinks, and latterly a Beecham Group company, after experience in the diesel manufacturing industry; in recent years he has been responsible forthe operation of about 1,700 vehicles.

T. T. Brown as service manager of Vauxhall Motors Ltd. T. T. Brown is retiring, at the age of 64, after 46 years' service with the company. 0. G. ('Boxer') Maddox, aged 51, has spent almost the whole of his 31 years with Vauxhall in the service department. For the past 13 years he has been service facilities and promotions manager. 'Boxer' Maddox can truly claim to have been born into the motor industry —in a cottage that was part of his grandfather's coachbuilding business in Huntingdon. When he started work he almost automatically went into the motor trade, and was on the retail side until he joined Vauxhall. Mr. Brown has one son who is manager of jig and die maintenance at Vauxhall and another working in the Pontiac Division of General Motors in the United States.

R. J. Hawkins has been appointed assistant engineer in the Bristol Omnibus Co. Ltd. and its associated companies from March 1. Mr. Hawkins is assistant engineer with the Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd. in Barnsley.

E. K. Burton, the P.R.O. for Girling Ltd., will be retiring and living abroad from March 1. Mr. Burton's position will be filled by J. H. Irvine. M. G. Steanes remains as publicity manager.

S. J. B. Skyrme has been elected chairman and D. S. Deacon a director of Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd., in succession to R. J. Ellery, who has retired from the board. Mr. Ellery had been a member of the board since 1957 and became chairman a year ago pending the setting up of the National Bus Company's organization. Mr. Skyrme is a director of other undertakings in the National Bus Group, and in particular is chairman of the Maidstone company's neighbour, the East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd. and Southdown Motor Services Ltd.

C. A. Bishop has been appointed chief engineer of the Southern Vectis Omnibus Co. Ltd. as from February 1 in succession to D. T. Searle, who has been appointed chief engineer of Aldershot and District Traction Co. Ltd.

R. Ellis, managing director of the truck and bus division of the British Leyland Motor Corporation. has been appointed to the board of directors of the bus and truck manufacturing subsidiaries in the Jaguar Group—Daimler Transport Vehicles Ltd., Guy Motors Ltd. and the Sunbeam Trolley Bus Co. Ltd.

V. G. E. Treble, formerly accountant, Scottish area, has been appointed assistant to the Scottish area manager, BRS Parcels Ltd. F. C. Wilmot, of Broxbourne. has been made marketing manager of British Road Services Ltd. This appointment follows closely on the recent announcement of a new board of executive directors at BRS. With many years in the road haulage industry, "Willie" Wilmot will be able to apply highly valued experience.to the marketing of the BRS range of transport services. Having started his career with the former Carter Paterson Company, Mr. Wilmot has spent the past 18 years as commercial officer within the BRS organization. His father spent 51 years in the industry. Married, with two daughters, Mr. Wilmot finds that his job takes up much of his time, but as chairman of the Hoddesdon museum committee and a member of the road safety committee, he manages to maintain his interest in local community affairs.

Alfred Smith, who in 1963 became deputy manager and engineer of Reading Corporation transport department. has been selected to succeed Mr. John Rostron as transport manager of Grimsby transport department. Mr. Rostron has been appointed manager of Huddersfield Corporation Transport after 14 years in Grimsby.

James Wishart, 31, has today been appointed an additional Director of Transport Development Group Ltd. A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Mr. vVishart joined the Group in 1961. He is group accountant of Scottish Area Transport Group Ltd., the TOG sub-holding company in Scotland.

T. W. Smith has been appointed transport manager of Milton Keynes Co-operative Society. Mr. Smith was previously employed by Coventry Co-op as transport supervisor.

W. T, E. Pinder, 41, is to become an assistant traffic manager to the Bristol Omnibus Company and its associated companies. At present district traffic superintendent at Folkestone with the East Kent Road Car Company. Mr. Pinder takes up his new appointment on March 1. The Bristol vacancy was created when B. L. Rootham became Devon General Omnibus and Touring Company traffic manager. At the first meeting of the national council of the new Freight Transport Association this week the following members were elected to the new user committee: F. M. Fieldhouse (British Ropes), S. J. Lamborn (Spillers), F. J. Frost (W. H. Smith).

George W. Sparshatt is to retire as managing director of Steels Commercials (Southampton) Ltd.. formerly George Sparshatts (Southampton) Ltd., on June 30. He will retire also from Sparshatts (Metal Bodies) Ltd. and will vacate his seat on the Steels group board. His main reason for retiring is to enable him to devote more time to his family business. Sparshatts (Standard-Triumph) Ltd Management of the main depot of Steels Commercials at Redbridge will be taken over by Richard B. Ide. The management of Steels Commercials (Taunton) Ltd. is to be taken over by Philip A. Leat.

F. M. S. Best has been appointed truck sales operations director, Rootes Motors Ltd. Mr. Best is responsible for all truck sales matters, including special vehicle orders, truck sales training programmes and providing guidance to regional managers and their regional truck sales managers E. Johnson, who has been with Fodens Ltd for some 50 years—for the past 13 as the general sales manager—has been appointed an executive director responsible to the board of directors. Three other similar appointments are: W. L. Foden, who latterly became the budget controller: D. C. Foden, for five years London office manager who returns to head office at Sandbach as executive sales director; S. P. Twemlow, who organized the setting up and installation of the computer department and is now responsible for organization and methods throughout the factory and all data processing functions.

Jeffrey Greenhalgh, 32, has been appointed director and general manager of Atkinson (AAsia) Pty. Ltd., Melbourne. Mr. Greenhalgh has been general manager since December 1967. Ian L. Fowler has been appointed director and general manager of Atkinson Vehicles (South Africa) Pty Ltd., Johannesburg. Both men are Lancashire-born.

OBITUARY We record with regret the deaths of George Clark, Peter Gillies and Peter Stirling.

Mr. Clark, who had been ill for several months, was managing director of A. and J. Clark Ltd.. Eglington Street. Glasgow, and chairman of the RHA's Glasgow and West of Scotland sub-area.

Mr. Gillies had been associated since the day of the horse and cart. with Shaw and Gillies, Rothesay.

Mr. Stirling. a partner in Peter D. Stirling Ltd.. a family business in Glasgow and district, particularly in the Kirkintilloch area. retired from active participation in the firm some years ago. He had been a member of the RHA for many years.
