Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MACCLESFIELD HAULIER RH Stevens is winding down its operations after liquidating three of its trading divisions.

RH Stevens Tankers, RH Stevens Forwarding and Distribution, and RH Stevens (Garages) all appointed Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor as liquidator of the three irms on 1 February. Its parent company – RH Stevens Transport – continues to trade, while a new company, Macclesield Transport, has been set up to handle the completion of deliveries of goods stored in its warehouses.

Stanley says: “The bank withdrew its facilities a couple of months ago and the directors put in a few hundred thousand before Christmas to keep it going.

“In January, wages were due to be paid again and they could pay only half as the money was not there. They had some problems and some big debts,” he adds.

As a result, 70 employees in its three trading divisions have been made redundant.

Calls to Macclesield Transport, which shares the same registered ofice as RH Stevens Transport, were not returned as CM went to press.
