IN SIX DAYS’ time, the FairFuelUK team will deliver its campaign petition to Prime Minister David Cameron.

“If you’ve never signed a petition before and never will again, make an exception for this one,” says Kate Gibbs, head of communications at the Road Haulage Association. “Every signature we receive is crucial to stress to the government how important it is that the planned duty rise is abolished.” The FairFuelUK website lists which MPs out of the total 600 are backing the campaign and has created a way for people to email their local MP to ask them to sign the petition if their MP’s name isn’t highlighted.

“We need as many MPs on our side as possible,” says campaign leader Peter Carroll.

James Hookham, MD of policy and communications at the Freight Transport Association, adds: “If operators can tell their MP how bad this is hurting them, then hopefully we can rely on those MPs’ vote when the Budget is announced [on 23 March].” The FairFuelUK team will be going to No. 10 Downing Street on Wednesday 2 March.
