Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Glass's Guide CV chief editor George Alexander looks at winners and losers in the used van market where buyers want common rail...

Light vans

Car-derived vans: In general the competition is strong with volume undermining late-year pricing levels. Citroen:Favourable prices on new models will pressurise prices in the used sector unless the supply of late-year models is carefully managed.

Citroen Berlin go: Older clean versions sell well provided they have a clear service history. Fiat Doblo: The diesell1D is the top performer, with any clean low-mileage standard diesel considered a good buy.

Ford 'Fiesta: Only clean lowmileage models with a full service history can achieve market prices. Ford Escort and Courier:Supply is matching demand.

Ford Connect: A popular model with prices close to matching the Guide price, but it is under pressure because supply is overrunning demand and there are incentives to buy new. Renault Clio: This is an endangered species, but those that are available are selling well. Renault Kangoo: The lowmileage dCi with side door is certainly a popular buy, while the pre-common-rail versions are out of favour.

Vauxhall Corsavan:The CDTi is pretty popular, but the older version is struggling.

Used panel vans Citroen Relay: Residuals are strong on the high-pressure common rail, while the early diesel is falling from grace.

Fiat Scudo: Its versatility is the key to its success, right down to the early turbo-diesel versions. Ford Transit: The LCX and LCY models are losing appeal, while dropside and tipper chassis-cabs remain popular with buyers. Iveco Daily: Models with plenty of load space and high-power engine options are receiving the most interest from operators; otherwise its low-mileage and mint condition for the best return on the rest of the range. Mercedes-Ben= The newgeneration Vito is achieving a significant premium over the outgoing model from the trade. There is strong money for the best-presented examples of the pre-common-rail Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, with the 313's rarity ensuring it gets top money. Renault Trafic The SWB is popular, hut plentiful supply is threatening the price.

Vauxhall Vivaro:The same goes for Vauxhall. LWB versions are popular, especially with 100hp. •
