• Many Teessiders will have to pay a penny more to travel by bus from Monday.

Teesside Corporation Transport has been given permission by the Northern LA to raise bus fares by a penny in the 4p to 7p fare bracket.

Mr William Holland, general manager, said that costs had risen by £533,000 — £462,000 of this was for higher wages.

The new fares structure is expected to yield £180,000 during the current year and £310,000 in a full year.

United Automobile Services Ltd and Trimdon Motor Services are expected to bring their fares into line.
