Mr. E. G. Whitaker has accepted the invitation of the Minister of Transport to become chairman , of the Central Transport Consultative Committee in succession to Sir Ronald Thombury Garrett, who recently resigned. Mr. Whitaker, who is 59, is transport adviser to Unilever, Ltd., and has been closely connected with transport throughout his career. He has been a member of the Central Transport ConsifitatiVe Committee since January, 1958, and is at present deputy chairman. He is president of the Institute of Transport for 1962-63, and was, from 1957, a member of the Council of the Institute and a vice-president from 1960.

Mr. John Priestman, of A.E.C.'s export division, is flying out to Trinidad-at the beginning of October to take up a year's appointment as A.E.C. resident representative in the territory. During his stay in Trinidad, Mr. Priestman will be available to cover A.E.C. activities in adjacent territories and will work in close co-operation with A.E.C.'s distributors in Trinidad, Neal and Massy, Ltd.,-of Port of Spain.

A new divisional board of S. Smith and Son's, Ltd., for the running of a Spark Plug and Ceramics Division to be formed by the intended merger of Lodge Plugs. Ltd.. and K.L.G. Sparking Plugs. Ltd., has been announced and is as follows: Mr. Ralph Gordon-Smith (chairman and managing director, S. Smith and Sons), chairman; Mr. F. 1. Burn (divisional managing director, S. Smith and Sons); Mr. C. St. C. Proctor (financial director, S. Smith and Sons); Mr. V. Martin-Jones (chairman, Lodge Plugs), director and general manager; Mr. J. T. G. Milne (director, K.L.G. Sparking Plugs), director and deputy general manager; Mr. F. E. V. Spencer (managing director, Lodge Plugs), production manager; Mr. R. W. Bailey (director. K.L.G. Sparking Plugs), director in charge overseas manufacture and production engineering.

As a result of a change in the management structure of Smiths Motor Accessory Division the following new appointments have been made under the continued managing directorship of Mr.

F. J. Burn: Mr. R. G. Cave becomes deputy managing director, Mr. S. E. Burlington, director and general manager. Mr. R. A. Neville, sales director—all motor vehicle original equipment. Mr. W. Harrison, production director and resident executive of the Witney site, Mr. P. Blair, sales manager with responsibility for the U.K. sales of all products to the automotive industry except original equipment, Mr. W. F. Sykes, export manager. Mr. I. H. Hall continues as trade sales manager.

The Rootes Group announces that Mr.

G. H. B. Cattell has been elected to the board of the Hillman Motor Car Co.. Ltd., and appointed group director of personnel.

Mr. S..1. Burn, chief assistant engineer (mechanical), has been appointed count, transport officer to the Warwickshire County Council.

Mr. R. Gaymer-Jones has been appointed district manager at the Dunlop Tyre Division depot. Albany Street, London, N.W.1.

Mr. Sydney White has been appointed general manager of Cravens. Ltd.. of Sheffield, of which company he was formerly technical director.

Mr. E. T. White has been appointed managing director of Homalloy (Yorkshire), Ltd. Mr. White has spent the whole of his working life with Cravens. Ltd., where he is deputy managing director.

Mr. E. Eastwood has been appointed transport manager by Long Eaton Co-operative Society to replace Mr. F. Ford, who is now Leicester Co-operative Society's transport manager.

Snr. Eduardo F. Dibos, executive president of Compania Goodyear del Peru, has been chosen the International Road Federation's " Man of the Year' for .1962. He will receive this honour at the fourth World Conference of the organization, to be held in Madrid in October.

Mr. Denis G. Dryden has been appointed as manager of Merrylec Motors of Glasgow by the S.M.T. Sales and Service Co., Ltd. Mr. Dryden was formerly assistant to Mr. J. B. Cranstoun, branch manager of the company's commercial branch in Glasgow. Denis Dryden replaces Mr. Gordon M. Noble. who has been branch manager at Merrylee Motors during the past five years and who has now been appointed manager of the Perth depot.

Mr. R. C. Lewis, manager of the engineering department at National Benzole's head office in Knightsbridge. retires on August 31 after having served nearly 40 years with the company. Mr. Lewis is being succeeded as manager of the engineering department by Mr. W. K. Wicks, at present assistant manager.
