PLANS are now being completed fen the final contest of the Lorry Driver of the Year competition, to be held at Bramcote, on September 23.

Activities will begin at 10 a.m. During the morning, drivers will compete for class championships, and the winners in each class will battle in the afternoon for the title, "Lorry Driver of the Year."

For the first time there will be class champions, who will receive awards from the following: Standard Motor Co., Ltd., class A; Quasi-Arc Co., Ltd., class B; Regent Oil Co., Ltd., class C; Power Petroleum, Ltd., class D; ShellMex and B.P., Ltd., class E; Wayne V. Myers Co., Ltd., class F; Transport and General Workers Union, class G.

The Sir William Rootes salver, with a solid silver cigarette case and cash award, will go to the driver who puts up the best performance in an oil-engined vehicle, Gold cuff links and cash prizes will go to the second and third men.

The driver placed first in his class who has had the longest period of accident-free driving will receive a prize from the Company of Veteran Motorists The Traders Road Transport Association are making an award to the best C-licence driver.

The Commercial Motor is presenting handsome illuminated diplomas to all competitors who gain at least 75 per cent, of the possible marks.

The Lorry Driver of the Year will receive the Coventry Trophy presented by the British Motor Corporation. The Coventry Evening Telegraph Trophy goes to the contestant in second place, and the National Benzole Trophy, third.

Lord Hawke, representing the Minister of Transport, will present the trophies.

INTERNATIONAL SITUATION CUTS COMPETITION ENTRIES

ENTRIES for the Portsmouth eliminating round of the Lorry. Driver of the Year Competition on September 1 have been smaller this year than in the past, partly because of the international situation, which is causing the Services to hold fire.

Up to 100 competitors will assemble at the Command Ordnance Depot, Hilsea, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., where the maintenance examination will begin. The first vehicle will leave on the road section at 9.30 a.m. Manoeuvring tests and the examination on the Highway Code will begin at Victoria Barracks at 10.30 a.m.

189 BUSES FOR DELHI

PROVISION for securing another 189 buses has been made by Delhi Road Transport Authority. Already 125 are on order. The fleet is being converted to oilers.

Frequency of service has been increased on almost all routes. In 1955-56, mileage operated was 10.7m., compared with 6.9m. in 1950-51.
