Smart Work by the L.G.O.C.

On Saturday last a team from the Strand House Cricket Club, which is composed of members of the staff of Messrs. W. H. Smith and Son, was unexpectedly stranded at Charing Cross without the means to reach Gomshall, Surrey, owing to the dislocation of the ordinary railway service. A very smart piece of work was carried through at the special request of this journal by the Hiring Department of ' the L.G.O.C. Some half an hour after it was discovered that the team was not to be enabled to reach its destination by the ordinary means, a motorbus belonging to the L.G.O.C. was taken off service, filled up with fuel, and was requisitioned for the special journey with the team and their friends -30 passengers in all. We understand that Messrs. W. H. Smith and Son's party spent a most-enjoyable day, and were particularly grateful that the L.G.O.C. took such trouble to afford them facilities, at very short notice, to get to their destination and back in such comfort. We are informed that the driver expressed a wish that the strike would last indefinitely. : A Luxurious Milnes-Daimler.

We reproduce on this page a photograph of a very interesting model of shooting brake that has been constructed for a well-known country gentleman by Milnes-Daimler, Ltd., 221, Tottenham Court Road. The model in question is a luxurious type of country-house car, and is constructed on a 30-cwt. standard Milnes-Daimler chassis. An extrapowerful engine has been fitted, in order to cope with the conditions in the hilly country in which this vehicle will be employed ; the engine in question will develop 28 b.h.p. The passenger accommodation is for 14 persons.

L.C.C. Canards.

The London motorbus companies' services were fully maintained during the strike period, although interested parties industriously circulated rumours that the drivers would cease work in sympathy with the drivers of the L.C.C. trams. Up to the time of going to press, although several meetings on the subject have been convened by union officials, the Council's men have not seen fit to "withdraw their labour." In some ways this is to be regretted, as the object lesson that would have been afforded by the uncongest,ed state of the streets would have been valuable.
