Town Plans

AVALUABLE feature of the Dunlop road map of South-East England, published by Geographia, Ltd., 167 Fleet Street, London, E.C.4, is the inclusion' of 14 town plans, including those for five ports and seaside resorts. Covering an area south of a line through Birmingham and east from Bath, the map has a scale of five miles to the inch, whilst Greater London is depicted separately. Detail includes the marking of steep hills, sandy beaches and wooded areas, and the National Grid is superimposed.

No Aerial A VEHICLE radio incorporating .1-1 transistors and for which no external aerial is required has been developed by the VOKS011 radio concern of Rome, Italy. Output is sufficient for two loudspeakers although current consumption is small, and, in the worth of the Makers, "the sonorous power is. like a good traditional receiver."

No Fouling EXCLUS1VE features are claimed for a Lai range of sparking plugs developed by the • AC-Deleo Division Of General Motors, Ltd., Dunstable, Beds. -Known as hot-tip plugs, they have an air space around the end of the central electrode which is stated to prevent the formation of fouling deposits. A special insulating material is used, and the top of the main insulator is ribbed to prevent electrical leakage.

The non-detachable plugs are available for all ears and commercials at the same price as those they supersede.

Independent Hook PAA 1-ton floor crane with a jib elevated by cable, but which can also be supplied with an independent hook movement, has been devised by Lynbar Precision Tools, Allington Lane, West End, Southampton. The lift of the jib is up to 8. ft., whilst the movement of the hook, which is by means of a hydraulic ram, is through 3 ft. The crane costs £92 without the ram or. £115 incorporating this refinement.

Sheathed Plugs AGLOW plug for oil engines has been produced by K.L.G. Sparking Plugs, Ltd., Putney Vale, London, S.W.15, in conjunction with the Met ropol itanVickers Electrical Co., Ltd. It has a sheathed element to replace the conventional exposed coil. It is stated that with a ",working end" diameter of only +, in., compared with about 11 in. for an average conventional plug, the new product needs a correspondingly smaller entrance hole

Current consumption is reduced to less than -half that of ordinary, plugs; and as the units are designed to be connected in parallel, if one becomes unserviceable the others will' continue to function and the engine can still be started. A handoperated 3-ton model costs £49 10s.
