Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

/ I'm indebted to one of my Swedish fledglings who brought this load of old cobblers back from a trip to America. It's so awful I've already voted it winner of the 1990 Hawk Naff Press Release Award. Read on.

E Fulierton, Calif. — Yokohama Tire Corporation has selected Launa Morosan, 24, as its representative for 1990.

Morosan, who assumes the title Miss Yokohama, will represent the company at trade shows, dealer promotions and other companyrelated activities. She will debut at the National Tire Dealers Retreaders Association convention 14-16 Sept in Anaheim, California.

"Launa possesses all the qualities we consider essential for Miss Yokohama," said James W MacMaster, Yokohama's director of marketing. "She has an outgoing personality, strong modeling experience and is not afraid to put in a good day's work."

"Yokohama is associated with high-quality products and I am very excited about the opportunity," Morosan said.

Morosan, of Glendale, California, is one of the original Los Angeles Raiderettes and has appeared in a number of television shows, commercials, magazines and calendars. But her resume includes more than glamour. The daughter of Russian parents, she speaks the language fluently, has done stunt work and co-owns a Los Angeles construction company.

Yokohama Tire Corporation has grown at an annual rate of 25% over the past five years. Given the quality of press release we can only wonder how? • Who are those guys? The other day I was hovering around the M61 minding my own business when I happened to notice an artic going by with the word "THING" writ large across the front of the trailer.

What did it mean? Was that the name of the truck... or the driver perhaps? Intrigued, I flapped a little faster and saw along the side of the trailer "We carry every.." Clever huh? Every-thing .. geddit?

Quite how well it works on both sides I'm not sure as I only saw the front and one side, but you've got to hand it to some imaginative haulier. Anybody know who it is?

/ Talking of liveries on trucks, the new snappy art designer logos on trucks have spelt the end of those wonderful catchphrases along the line of "You call, we haul". Somehow they don't sit happily against bold stripes and punchy lettering. My favourite immortal lines can be found on the vehicles belonging to demolition and tipper contractor Syd Bishop. His motto "watch it come down" has always raised a smile on my beak while I have been stuck in a jam on the Old Kent Road. It says so much more than "experts in logistics".

liThe chaps and chapesses who tend the every need of hauliers and their drivers on your favourite ferry company, Sealink, have been presented with Commercial Motor's boat vote plaque for 1990. Sealink won most votes for its DoverCalais service. Pictured from left to right are: John Griffin, area sales manager for freight in the Midlands; Chrys Rampley, freight operations manager, Dover Eastern Docks; captain John Roberts of Sealink's new ship, the Fantasia; CM news editor Murdo Morrison and Ray Tedman, UK freight sales manager.
