• Accrington Corporation transport committee and union representatives on Monday .reached a wages and productivity agreement which has been forwarded to the National Joint Industrial Council for approval.
Mr. J. Chadwick, Accrington Corporation general manager, told CM that basically the agreement provided for a lOs increase back-dated to last December and a lOs bonus from June 13 1968 which would be consolidated into basic pay on January 1 1969.
The imponderables appertaining to wages and the Transport Bill meant that a clear forecast regarding operating cost could not be given, said Mr. N. D. MacGregor, deputy town clerk of Accrington, submitting the corporation's application for a Id increase on all fares, to the North Western traffic commissioners in Manchester on Tuesday.
Due to the platform staff ban on overtime at the end of last year and a significant rise in cost, an estimated deficit in the year 1967/68 of /3,500 had turned into an actual deficit of £13,492 and the accumulated deficit for the current financial year was estimated to be /24,000.
Mr. Chadwick told the commissioners that 16.8 per cent of the mileage was done on o.m.o. vehicles and that three doubleand two single-deckers were to be delivered next year, all suitable for single-manning.
The commissioners granted the increase, giving a 4d minimum, for 12 months only.
