Diamond Jubilee
pr his annual statement, on the occasion I of the Diamond Jubilee of Lancashire United Transport Ltd.. the company chairman, Mr. Robert Cary, stressed the effects of "the punishing tax imposed on diesel fuel used in aur buses", although he was glad to see that the Chancellor had proposed to exclude stage carriage operations front the 6d. additional tax imposed last November. Other taxation charges, he said, were excessive. •
Referring to the Travel Concessions Act of 1964, Mr. Cary said it was most unsatisfactory that the Act did not allow local authorities which operated joint services with the company or local authorities which did not operate their own buses to contribute to the cost of concessionary fares on the company's buses.
Lancashire United's. fleet has 301 double-deck and 65 single-deck buses and 40 coaches, and orders have been placed for a further 23 double-deckers, three single-deckers and four coaches.
The profit and loss account showed a balance of £134,815 for the year ended December 31 last, compared with £130,733 in the previous year. Taxation and other charges for 1964 were:—
