Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Volvo-owned BRS has shifted into Renault's overall remit, but it will continue as an independent business. Louise Cole reports.

BRS IS NOW under Renault's operational umbrella, despite still being wholly owned by Volvo. Renault says the change will help BRS's "strategic development".

The Warwick-based rental and contract-hire firm has struggled to find its place within the Volvo Group. It has little obvioussynergv with either truck manufacturer's business and could be competing with their dealer networks.

The move comes at the end of a long process in which the group explored all options for BRS, including its sale Cawley was previously BRS finance director. He believes it can be profitable well within five years: "It's a strong business and with a little more time and the right strategy we can turn it around. Looked at as part of the group, its financial position doesn't seem as had as it would fora stand-alone business."

Operationally the change will make littledifferencetoBRS."What will change is the timesca le," he says.

Renault Truck UK's new MD. Laurent Farman, says BRS will not compete with Renault dealerships in the contract-hire or rental markets:"On the contrary. B RS offers an opportunity for increased business to our UK dealers: A Renault statement says: "The make-up of BRS's fleet is determined principally by the vehicles fitting the customers needs. Of course, there is a preference for group products. It is not anticipated that the fleet composition will alter as a result of this change"

BRS offers rental, contract-hire and long-term service agreements, in which it oversees project management of its clients' transport needs. It also offers a product called tap-,a paperlesscompliance system which is applied to all its own vehicles.
