Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SUNDAY bus services are costing the Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., 29.81d.. per mile--a loss of 2d., the East Midland frailic Commissioners were told last week. The company were seeking permission to discontinue a Sunday return journey between Alfreton and Chesterfield. Six local authorities objected.

The figures were given by Mr. K. Laing, traffic manager, who said the application was being made to help keep down costs. If granted, it would assist in avoiding future fare increases.

FOr the company, Mr. J. N. Valiance said an average of only 2.5 people used th 8.18 a.m. service from Alfreton to Chesterfield over an 11-month period, and 7.9 travelled the opposite way. This journey was withdrawn during the Suez crisis and no hardship was caused.

Mr. A. C. G. Rothera, for the cOuncils, said it would be a serious inconvenience to the public if they were denied the journeys.

Decision was adjourned until the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners had been consulted. as most of the route is in their area.
