Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A MARKED worldwide increase in the popularity of small diesel engines, at the expense of petrol engines, over the next six years is forecast in the fourth edition of the annual "World Engine Digest", a comprehensive guide to world engine markets.

The switch to car diesel engines will occur most rapidly in France and the UK, says the book. The biggest market for diesel cars will be Italy, where it is predicted that by 1990 they will take 39 per cent of the market.

It is expected that the general move to diesel engines in the agricultural sector will continue. The digest also forecasts that the number of diesel car registrations in North America which has declined over the last two years will gradually recover. In Japan the growth will be even more rapid with a forecast output by 1990 of 550,000 units a year.

The "World Engine Digest" uses in its forecasts data produced by Planning Research and Systems (PRS). The 305-page book costs 035 and is published by John Mann Publishing, 24 Old Bond Street, London W1.
