AMany interests have to be consulted by the International Standards Organisation's appropriate technical committee. The United States proposed the M H 5 fitting in 1965 but have since modified the specification. An ad hoc committee of ISO, meeting at Genoa in October 1966, urged the thickening of certain parts of the casting and the strengthening of materials to withstand pressures of 45,000 lb/in2.
The Americans feel that fittings proved on their domestic services should be acceptable internationally. European shipping and transport experts hold that American domestic experience is irrelevant to the international maritime use now envisaged.
